How to Choose the Right Inflatable Boat: A Complete Buying Guide
From intended use to material quality, tube diameter, and floor type — everything you need to know before buying an inflatable boat.
Choosing the right inflatable boat can be overwhelming with so many options on the market. Here’s what to consider.
Key Factors
Intended Use
Are you fishing, cruising, tendering to a larger vessel, or exploring whitewater? Each activity demands different features in length, tube diameter, and hull design.
Material Quality
Look for high-denier PVC fabric with multiple layers and welded seams. Wavefella uses military-grade PVC with a density of 1100 Dtex for maximum durability.
Tube Diameter
Larger tubes (50cm+) provide better stability and load capacity. Smaller tubes are lighter and pack smaller.
Floor Type
- Slat floors: Lightweight, affordable, fold flat
- Air floors: Lightest option, packs smallest
- Aluminum/plywood floors: Maximum rigidity and performance
Size Matters
A general rule: add 1 meter to the number of passengers. A 3-person family needs at least a 4m boat.
